Posted: 13 September, 2014
The Irish Research Council featured prominently in this year’s Career Zoo, with hundreds of early stage Researchers, including Masters, PhD and Postdoctoral candidates, in attendance. Career Zoo, which took place in the Convention Centre, Dublin on Saturday September 13th, is Ireland’s premier career event for Researchers, graduates and professionals seeking exciting career opportunities.
Also present were major multinational companies and Irish SMEs, in addition to educators and recruiters, with top employers looking to fill thousands of vacancies in Ireland, many of whom are active participants on the Irish Research Council’s Enterprise Programmes. In particular, the Employment Based Programme is an increasingly attractive option for Companies of all types through the provision of funding support to employ Researchers in all sectors.
The Irish Research Council sponsored a ‘Tech Startup Workshop’ where NDRC (National Digital Research Centre) joined forces with UCD Innovation Academy to work with top class Researchers in teaching them how to identify, harness and exploit the commercial opportunities arising from their research. Dr Ross Mc Kiernan, Enterprise Programmes Manager, delivered a talk entitled, “Providing early-stage Researchers with Enterprise Experience and Employment Opportunities”, which detailed the benefits of these Programmes for early stage Researchers, Companies, Higher Education Institutes, and indeed for society in general.
