“IRCSET-Marie Curie International Mobility Fellowships in Science Engineering and Technology”
In 2008, for the first time, IRCSET offered these prestigious IRCSET-Marie Curie co-funded awards. 18 researchers took up INSPIRE Fellowships in 2009.
Link here for information on a recent event hosted by IRCSET for these Fellows.
The objective of the IRCSET INSPIRE co-funded Scheme is to encourage Ireland-based researchers who have gained most of their research experience in Ireland, to avail of a structured period of overseas mobility with associated career development actions, followed by a corresponding return period in Ireland. Candidates propose pursuing their work for up to 18 months at a research laboratory in any country of their choice worldwide, followed by a 12 month reintegration period at an Irish research laboratory.
The INSPIRE Scheme is 40%-co-funded by the European Commission Marie Curie Actions via a 7th Framework Programme (FP7) COFUND award won by IRCSET in 2008. The award supports two Calls for INSPIRE fellowships in 2008 and 2009, and the cost of the fellowships awarded during those Calls. Future INSPIRE calls in 2010 and beyond are subject to an internal review of the programme, which will take place in mid 2010.
Who can apply?
INSPIRE targets those individuals who are currently working at an Irish research laboratory, and who, since gaining a PhD or equivalent, have worked mostly at an Irish research laboratory. Candidates must have been awarded their PhD or equivalent by the date of application. They must be no more than 5 “academic years” after the PhD (or equivalent) award.
For more information, including the full eligibilty criteria, please download all documents available at the bottom of the page. Please read these documents carefully before approaching IRCSET with queries.
Applications for INSPIRE will be accepted via one call for Postdoctoral Fellowships in Autumn each year.
The Call for Fellowships in 2010 opened on Friday 2nd October 2009. and closed for applicants on Thursday 12th November 2009. The results will be announced in April 2010. For more information on call dates, please link here.
Applicants who currently hold an IRCSET fellowship are eligible to apply for INSPIRE, as long as they fulfil the eligibility requirements.
The INSPIRE scheme, whilst supported by Marie Curie Actions, and developed in the ethos of Marie Curie, is an IRCSET programme. Typical Marie Curie rules do not necessarily apply to INSPIRE. Candidates should refer to the Terms & Conditions document to identify the rules and regulations of the scheme, not the Marie Curie Workprogramme document.
