IRCSET Fellow Recieves Award for Excellence in Scientific Communication

Dr. Maria McNamara of University College Dublin, who was recently one of the first recipients of an IRCSET INSPIRE International Mobility Fellowship, has received the Charles Lyell Award for excellence in science communication from the British Science Association.

Dr. Hrishikesh Venkataraman from Dublin City University has won the best paper award at the World Congress on Engineering and Computer Science (WCECS) held in October 2009 in University of California, Berkeley, USA.

IRCSET Postdoctoral Fellowships Call 2009/2010
The Call for IRCSET Postdoctoral Fellowships in 2010 opened on Friday 2nd October 2009.  Applications are sought from talented researchers to both the EMPOWER and INSPIRE Postdoctoral Fellowship Schemes.  The Call will close at 5pm GMT on Thursday 12th November 2009.  Results will be announced in April 2010.

IRCSET hosts event for new INSPIRE Fellows
IRCSET recently hosted a "kick-off" event for the newly-appointed INSPIRE Fellows, the first recipients of the new IRCSET-Marie Curie International Mobility Fellowships in Science, Engineering and Technology.  The 18 INSPIRE fellows will travel this autumn to some of the world’s most prestigious research institutions, including the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Columbia and Yale, the Universities of Cambridge and Oxford and the Max Plank Institüt für Extraterrestrische Physick, Germany.   The Fellows received briefings on topics such as career management, professional development planning, research mobility and research links with industry.

IRCSET Enterprise Partnership Scheme Scholar wins SME Best Paper Award
Ms. Emma Brazel (IRCSET Enterprise Partnership Scheme scholar) was jointly awarded the SME Best Paper Award at the recent 26th International Manufacturing Conference that took place in the School of Engineering, Trinity College Dublin.

IRCSET Scholar Joey Enfield wins Rosse Medal
At the Institute of Physics in Ireland Conference, Joey Enfield from the University of Limerick won the Rosse medal award for Graduate Research for the best presentation from a PhD for his work on the enhancement of imaging techniques using optical clearing.

Ted Vaughan from the University of Limerick wins the Sir Bernard Crossland Prize!
Ted Vaughan was presented with the 2009 prize for best paper in Mechanical Engineering by Sir Bernard Crossland at the annual Crossland Symposium held at Queens University Belfast.
