Call for Outline Proposals: European Trans-Atlantic Coral Ecosystem Study (EuroTRACES)

The Irish Research Council for Science, Engineering and Technology (IRCSET) and the Marine Institute are delighted to announce that they will support Irish participation in the collaborative EuroTRACES call for proposals.

For more information please link here.

Research consortia must involve three eligible Principal Investigators (PIs) from at least three different countries. Eligible countries are Belgium, Germany, Ireland, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal and Spain.

Full details of the aims and objectives of EuroTRACES, eligibility criteria and application procedures are available on the EuroTRACES website.

Deadline for Outline Proposals: 26th March 2010.
Deadline for Full proposals: 25th June 2010

Applications should envisage three years of research. Taking into account the two-stage proposal selection and approval process, the successful projects are expected to begin their research phase activities in April 2011.

IRCSET support will be in accordance with the attached Guidelines with maximum funding to any one Principal Investigator limited to €250,000 per project (inclusive of overhead). Priority will be given to those proposals that most effectively support the formation of new researchers (e.g. support for PhD students/early stage post-doctoral researchers).

Additional support from the Marine Institute of up to 15 days ship time on board the RV Celtic Explorer (www.marine.ie/home/services/researchvessels/explorer/home.htm) will be made available where the Irish research team includes a doctoral or early stage post-doctoral candidate in marine bio discovery/ biotechnology who would act as a link with the Beaufort Marine Biotechnology Programme. Alternatively, a mix of research vessel days and use of the ROV Holland (www.marine.ie/home/services/researchvessels/ROV.htm) can be negotiated with the Marine Institute.

Intending applicants should contact their National Funding Organisations (see application procedures) in order to verify eligibility and ensure compliance with their national grant requirements and regulations.  IRCSET's Guidelines on Eligible Direct Costs and Overheads for the programme may be downloaded below.
